Romona's Fabulous Hair

"My hair journey began summer of 2011, I've been natural all my life but I never cared for my hair it was extremely heat damaged from all the trips to the hair salon. So I decided that I would take baby steps, so I would never feel like I was forcing myself to stay away from heat. I wore wash n go's for months and then in January I started protective styling. Throughout my journey I've used various different products, but the ones that I truly love are Organics Olive Oil Shampoo and Replenishing Conditioner, Cantu Shea Butter and Olive Oil Eco-Styler. I have a lot of hair so I get a wide range of reactions when people see my hair. Living in New York there are a lot of strange and different people, but yet my hair never fails to amaze people. I've had people touch my hair with out permission, people follow me around bombarding me with questions on what I use, I don't mind at all though. But then unfortunately I've had people doubt me and wither I'm lying about my hair. People always assume that I'm mixed or wear Afro wigs , which is obviously not true. My advice to other women that want to go natural is to first find confidence within yourself , people are going to try to put you down and tell you things like "girl you need slap a perm in that hair", but you cant fall into temptation if this is something you really want to do. Your hair might not look amazing everyday but you have to be confident and realize that this can only lead to healthier hair and a healthier lifestyle."  ~ Romona

Add Some Color!

I love this gorgeous photo of Gia! I lot of people think that when you have loc's or dreadlocks, that your options for style and color are limited. But this is very untrue. There are many styles you can create with your hair and color is always fun. Meet with your stylist, talk about some styles or color your interested, and find some ideas that will work with your hair type and color that will be safe for your hair. And just have fun with it!  And it always great to have photos like this one as inspiration to show you that being adventurous with your hair can be fun.

Leslie's Gorgeous Loc Style!

I love this fabulous hair style by Leslie!  Here is what she had to say about her hair -

"I've been natural for about 4 years and I've had locs for 3 and a half years. I went natural with the intention
of having locs because I've always admired them.  I don't really use many products. I wash with suave clarifying shampoo and retwist with olive oil and sometimes gel.  That’s about it, neglectful, I know lol.  And.... I seriously love my hair. Contrary to popular belief, I feel like my hair is way more versatile loc’d than in any other style. Locing my hair was the best hair decision I've ever made." - Leslie

Hair Model for Loctician Ansylla

I had a great time being a hair model for Natural Hair Stylist, Ansylla's My Hairitage Workshop. It took place in the Bay Area,  on February 2012. Ansylla traveled in from Maryland, to show local locticians how to create various loc styles, no matter what length the hair. As the instructor, she was very knowledgeable and has a very light touch. No matter what hair style she demonstrated on my hair, I never felt any discomfort or painful pulling. With each style coming out with great detail and perfection, the fact that I did not feeling any pain on my scalp was amazing. Ansylla is a talented loctician and a great teacher. I look forward to seeing her again at  future events. To read more about Ansylla, go to My Hairitage Holistic Hair Care. For the next scheduled workshop, check out August 2012 My Hairitage Holistic Hair Care Workshop on Eventbrite.

29 Styles, 29 Days, $29 Dollars!

29 Styles, 29 Days, $29 Dollars!
By Terez Howard

If you could ask me what emotion dominated my first year with locs, I would not say freedom, although my locking journey was and continues to be a freeing experience.  I would not say love, even though I love my hair more than ever since my micro locs were installed.  I would say fear.
Yes, fear.  I was afraid of ruining my hair.  I worried that manipulation would cause irreversible damage.  I know.  Dramatic, right?  So, I did only about a dozen hair styles during those first 365 days with locked hair.  For me, that was a sickeningly minimal amount of styles since I was the girl that changed her hair do at least every week, if possible.

It took me a whole year to realize that the locs growing out of my head weren’t going to crash and burn from styling.  Therefore, to satisfy my craving for hair styles, I decided to do 29 Styles, 29 Days, $29.  I will do a different hair style every day in February and not spend more than $29 on accessories.
This challenge will be tricky because I don’t have long locs, and the styles I salivate over require arm-pit length hair.  I also lack hair styling skills because I have done next to no experimenting with my locs.

I invite you to follow my challenge at Naturalicious Hair every day in February.
